The legend usually involves a grateful Chinese mandarin whose son was rescued from drowning by one of Lord Grey's men, although this blend of tea was first made from fermented black "Ceylonese" (Sri Lankan) teas.
A few corrections are in order Firstly, the Chinese have never been black tea drinkers, and were unlikely to have a recipe for Earl Grey to bestow on visitors. Hot Tea Brewing Method
- Use Filtered water or spring water that is not too heavy
- Boil one cup of water (212 Fahrenheit) in a clean pot
- Add one tablespoon of Loose leaf Black Tea and steep for five minutes
